We’re a team of dedicated researchers,
historians, and creative thinkers who help clients piece together the past.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Who we are

We are business-minded researchers trained to locate information in extremely complex environments.

With almost 75 years combined experience within the management team, The History Group has a well-established track record of success in supporting government, law firms and aboriginal bands at all stages in the settlement and civil litigation process, and have consistantly delivered accurate, reliable and timely research deliverables to our clients.

NICOLE READ
Founder and President

Nicole graduated from SFU in 2003 with an MA in History. Born and raised in the Lower Mainland of B.C., Nicole loves locating the final piece of a puzzle in a long-forgotten file. Managing projects large, small and in-between, Nicole represents her clients with unwavering vigour. She has two busy boys, a chocolate lab with begging eyes and a Rhodesian Ridgeback who has finally overcome a fabric-eating fetish. When not working or chasing her pack, Nicole has a host of community projects on the go.

TAMARA MURRAY
Project Manager

Tamara graduated from UBC in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (but we don't hold it against her)! Tamara has a well-honed knack for achieving what seems impossible, and clients love her "dog on a bone" approach to research. Speaking of dogs, Tamara has two wee-ones and a beautiful daughter whose spirit is larger than life. When not working, Tamara likes to organize her already organized house and cut back unruly bushes in her backyard!

What we do

If the information exists, we’ll find it, and deliver it on-time and on-budget. Just ask our clients.

With almost 75 years combined experience within the management team, The History Group has a well-established track record of success in supporting government, law firms and aboriginal bands at all stages in the settlement and civil litigation process, and have consistantly delivered accurate, reliable and timely research deliverables to our clients.

Practice Areas
PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Our team has managed research projects of all shapes and sizes, delivering digital document collections ranging from 100 to 1,000,000+ documents. We know how to position the right people in the right places with the right systems to extract the right information for our clients. Our success in this practice area is derived from our deep experience mining the most important and complex archives in Canada. This experience enables us to establish realistic budgets, gateposts and milestones in our project plans.

HISTORICAL RESEARCH

Our team has retrieved archival documents for a multitude of clients and projects. We are specialists in Aboriginal claims, having worked on all sides of key issues such as Specific Claims, Comprehensive Claims, Indian Day and Residential Schools and Indian Hospitals. Of paramount importance, however, we are unrivaled in the breadth of our archival research experience. Our research projects have led us into the depths of local, provincial, federal and aboriginal archives across the country, turning complex accessioning systems inside-out until we find what we are looking for or an explanation of why it isn't where it should be.

RECORDS MANAGEMENT

The world is becoming increasingly digital. This is changing the methods we use to search for information and the way we organize the information we collect. We are experts in the creation of digital document collections and we use technology mindfully to increase efficiency and reduce costs. As a result of our steady engagement with civil litigation projects, we are experienced in delivering collections that meet with the Canadian Judicial Council Standards. We are trusted for our best practices in the areas of digital reproduction and database tagging.

Yes, We like

Our Work

We’re proud to work with amazing people on some of the largest research projects in Canada.

We believe that solid working relationships are the key to the success of all of our projects. And we want our clients to enjoy the experience of working with us as much as we want them to be pleased with our end results.

We encourage you to review each of our practice areas in more detail to identify the area that most closely describes your project. If you find that your project does not fall within any of our key practice areas, we would appreciate learning more about the details so that we can apply our expertise to creating a unique plan that’s tailored specifically for you. There is no project too large, too small, too old or too new for us to deliver.
